In 1945, frugal and health minded Americans were growing a full 42% of their vegetables and fruits in backyards, schoolyards, and
community gardens.  Food purchases were made from locally owned grocers, who stocked their shelves with a wide variety of items
typically raised within a 100-mile radius of their communities.

Wikipedia Definition of Permaculture
On a recent trip to Asheville, North Carolina, I got dose of how strong the "local
food" movement is.  The community there is very strong, and very active.  It
inspired me to create this list of local food sources and businesses who support
this movement.  Please send me your contributions so I can add them to this list.
Send them to
gary@pikespeakpermaculture.org.   I am interested in any local
businesses that are using local food resources, including grocers, restaurants,
CSAs, etc.
Local food is that which has traveled less than 100 miles to get to its
final destination
.  For an ideal of what will work, I have created a short list of
businesses below.   To go to the full list,
CLICK HERE.   I will continually update it
as I receive more suggestions.

Food prices are going up!  Here's an example of what supermarket food is
starting to cost:  (This is what I recently paid)
1 Organic Braeburn Apple-$1.12
1 Red Onion-$ .95
